The Purple Reed - Slim
PURPLE THREAD
Although maintaining a wide shape at the tip to produce a warm tone, the purple reed is made using an overall slimmer shape, a slimmer throat and tied on to a Chiarugi 2 staple (slimmer opening). Chiarugi staples are now available in 2 different lengths: 47mm (standard) or 46mm (for continental oboists). The 46mm length would suit a continental oboe such as a Loreé or Marigaux. This shape is designed to help tuning on continental oboes in the upper register whilst maintaining a mellow tone. The reeds are profiled and then hand-finished to achieve a flexible but mature and rich, 'chocolatey' tone and a solid intonation in the upper register.
Perfect for all oboists who prefer a firm reed with a harder resistance.
All reeds are wired. The standard length of this reed is 72mm length for 47mm staples and 71mm length for 46mm staples (this can be adjusted upon request).
